Stimming - xx-12-2010 -

In which way do you feel your music (or dance music in general) expresses the condition of our society, the vibe of our times?

in what i experienced it fits perfectly to a globalized world - with its focus on the groove its able to be understood by everyone, no matter what language or culture someone comes from. different from e.g. rap music where its important to understand what the artist wants to tell you with his lyrics, dancemusic strips everything down to a very easy understandable groove - 4/4 bassdrum.
thats why it works everywhere - japan, australia, russia, united states, south america, south africa, europe and so on...
musically i see it as the most forward thinking kind of music, because its connected to technology very strongly. but on the other hand many dance-producers often forget that technology isnt the only thing that counts - music is also able to express things which cant be said. i miss that point in a lot of dance-music out there...
however, clubbing is also a very hedonistic thing to do, with a big self-destroying part of it, which seems to be human at all...

What kind of sound would you make without machines?
I would be a one man jazz combo! :)

Do you set yourself rules for your productions/mixes? What are they?
i dont set myself rules. interesting music for me works through breaking "rules", so i try to have an open mind as much as possible. as long as it sounds good its good.

but what works for me very well is using self made signals whenever i´m able to. that could be field-recorded stuff, most of my percussions are self-played and when i play a bassline or chords from a synthie i quantize only when its needed. but this is only because it sounds better for me. if a synthie plugin sounds good, i would also use it...

Bonus_
You are on a lost island with only one 60 min tape/100 mb player. what would you choose?

"Feist - let it die" and "Dj Krush - kakusei"
