Who do you make music for?

Basically i do music for myself in the studio, quick and no concept, using whatever is handy and connected to the mixer, mood of the day. Not even 1 percent of these tracks finds it´s way on a release. But then i also spin and play live, so mostly i play music for the people to have a fucking good time!..:-)

Are there conventions in the electronic music scene you would like to overcome? (listening/producing)

If you produce a lot, you fall for routines very easy. Always changing my hardware setup to avoid that, but the arrangement sometimes feels quite similar.
I visualised this on soundcloud, that most of my tracks got the same style of arrangement, there goes the break, here´s the transition..whatever. Guess dj-ing got a lot to do with that, you always have to try to overcome your own conventions, even if some people only follow you for these in particular!

Same goes for listening to music. I´m listening to a lot of demos for Philpot every week, promos and new releases for the shop too... But when i know the sample in the first 32 bars i´m out! That kept me from a lot of quality stuff, but it will never compare with my feel for the original. That´s quite stupid though...:-) I ´d really like to overcome that!

What do you consider musical innovation, and how important is it to you?

Musical innovation in dancemusic today mostly comes with new production techniques, new tools, programs, plug-ins..etc.
When you collect records of all decades, true musical innovation is quite harder to find. So, personality is a very huge factor for me! Some recognizable personality in your tracks is musically innovative for me too.
Can be the way your sound is mixed, or how you abuse a certain machine, i simply appreciate daring above innovative!

Bonus:
You are on a lost island with only one 60 min tape/100 mb player. what would you choose?

The tape, some scissors and a screwdriver...:) Some tracks that might fit the mood:

larry young - turn off the lights
the orb - little fluffy clouds
tribe - smoke
madlib - top secret 3
undisputed truth - spaced out
geto boys - mind is playing tricks on me
albert ayler - untitled duet
tool - the grudge
jimmy rodgers - kisses sweeter than wine
jaylib - jay and lib go to bed edit
eddy grant - timewarp

or any larry levan mix, if it has to be dance music..:-)
